Frequently Asked Questions

How are you different from a rabbi at a temple?
The desire to share my experience and knowledge in a personal manner sets me apart from congregational rabbis. I insert my personal and spiritual touch in every ceremony I perform and my goal is to not only serve as a spiritual leader but also as a teacher.

Do you co-officiate with cantors?
I do and have co-officiated with several cantors, though I have often officiated alone.

What services do you provide?
I provide a variety of life cycle ceremonies including: baby namings, Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation, conversions, weddings, renewal of vows, and funeral services. I have worked with several out of state students to train them for their Bar/ Bat Mitzvah via Skype and have prepared candidates for conversion in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

Do you work with interfaith couples?
I work with interfaith couples in a variety of ways including counseling and conversion.

What is your teaching philosophy when it comes to Bar/Bat Mitzvah tutoring?
Understanding the meaning of the prayers and the reason for reciting them makes a Bar/Bat Mitzvah ceremony that much more meaningful to the student. Each child learns differently and at his/her own pace, so I try to adjust each tutoring session according to the individual needs of each student.  I work closely with the family on all aspects of the Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation, making sure that everyone is comfortable with the process and knows exactly what to expect. I carefully monitor the students' progress throughout the Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation and provide the family with frequent progress reports. In addition, I try to incorporate into the lessons, Jewish principles and values, including the significance of becoming a Jewish adult and what that means in modern times.

Will you travel out of state or to other counties?
I do travel outside of the State of Maryland to perform weddings, and have officiated at several destination weddings.

We don’t belong to a congregation, does that matter?
Not at all. Please contact me to discuss details regarding your request.
